Kate’s paintings explore colour and texture and are often inspired by familiar places and chance encounters that hold memory and meaning for the artist. She works intuitively, primarily with paint, charcoal and pastel to build layers of medium which are erased or enhanced in order to re-create textures and patina found in the natural environment.

Kate graduated from Leeds University in 1993 with a BA in sculpture & printmaking and has been exploring with different media and technique ever since.

Her paintings explore colour/texture in the natural environment and are often inspired by familiar places that have been revisited and overlaid with memory and experience. She works intuitively, primarily with paint, charcoal and pastel creating layers of medium which are erased or enhanced to shape her interpretation of the essence of a place.

Living in Penwith it is impossible not to be inspired by the natural beauty that surrounds us.
