Artists and Makers dedicated to promoting Penzance as a contemporary creative community
Helen Ellis- Brown
John grew up in Cornwall and gained his degree in painting printmaking and photography.
He began the Gull Gallery in St Ives, hosting shows for many local artists. His studio and gallery is now in central Penzance. Inspired by viewing murals by Diego Rivera in Mexico, his work in oil, acrylic and watercolour is figurative and colourful. Mexico Ireland Shetland and Cornwall feature in his work, as do the three great peace movements in his lifetime.
Melanie’s paintings are “bright, exuberant and passionate, rooted in the landscape of west Cornwall and yet suggestive of something deeper. Her brushwork is bold and expressive, brave too: Melanie is not an artist who holds back. She embraces the process of painting with gusto and her finished work, whether in oils, gouache or mixed media, is unlike anything else in the contemporary Cornish art scene, somehow kaleidoscopic, spontaneous and reflective all at once.” — Cornwall Today’ Magazine, June 2015

Winnie embraces nature and wildlife. Downloaded from her memory, Winnie’s ceramic sculptures are inspired by mother nature and humbly studied as part of her meditation.
"Art is a form of memory from generations. I play amongst many different mediums and hope to capture some moments of our time, some memories of our generation, the ups and downs, the bright and dark, the truth and pretense.” - Winnie Lyn
